Mathijs van Oosterhoudt Updates: SLR module + Scaling fix + Loading tutorial Posted at 6:54pm, Oct 11, 2015
Hey all! Quick list of updates for today; For all of you who are having scaling issues when using InkScape or using other software; This should now be fixed. The problem was originally due to SVG storing dimensions as pixels, but both Illustrator and InkScape assume different DPI when translating the dimensions to millimeters. Saving from illustrator causes it to be incorrectly scaled in InkScape and vice verse. I'm now using different software to make the final SVG file, which seems to have fixed the issue. I have re-uploaded all the files with the appliedfix, please let me know if it did so for you, too! All filenames have been updated to make sure that the dimensions of the file are 100% identical to that of the filename, so even if scaling issues set up you can use this to fix it. I've uploaded the SLR module to the website which will allow you to make your own SLR cameras! This is a relatively simple but effective module. It requires both your standard 3mm opaque material as well as a 3mm acrylic mirror (I usually order mine through eBay), though make sure not to lasercut it with the mirror side up! I've fixed a small mistake in the film back module which meant the top was flipped around, not leaving enough space for other modules to lock on. For those who have put together a camera but haven't loaded it yet, I've uploaded a quick and easy loading guide here; https:// Nothing fancy, but it should get you started. Once this roll is done I'll upload an unloading video. While I talk about the arrows and number on the back of the film, it's quite hard to see on the video itself. That will be all for now! In the attachment you'll also find the last Focal Camera I build in an attempt of seeing what a bit of visual modification would do, figured I'd share.
