Hello all! First off, thanks for subscribing to the mailing list, I'm very happy to see that there's interest in such a project. Over the past few days I have had many requests and questions regarding how to get started, what materials to use and how to make lenses. Right now, to create a camera, you would already need to know what is possible and what makes a camera, which makes it hard to get started for people who do not yet have this knowledge (A problem, considering the goal is to make such knowledge accessible!) To solve this I am writing a starter's guide that should answer most of these questions and give you an idea of how a camera is constructed, what kind of cameras are possible and the more practical side of things, such as how to use the system, get lenses & how to make your camera light-tight and the likes. To make sure it covers your questions fully I'd like to know what questions you have! Below you will find a list of topics I'll be covering, but if you have any extra questions while I'm writing I'd be glad to hear so that I may include them in the starter's guide to the focal camera. What makes a camera? What is a good place to start? How to design a camera? What is possible? What is not possible? What does each module do? How to make / design lenses? Where to get lenses? What material to use and where to get? How to laser-cut / where to laser-cut? How do I make my camera light-tight? How do I use the camera? How do I test my camera before using film? What are cheap ways to develop film?
